Notes:
In The Basic Manual of Fly-Tying, Fling & Puterbaugh call this wet fly attractor Rio Grande King. The tying instructions are detailed; the recipe is not except for the chenille body and calf tail wing. Traditionally a Rio Grande King is tied with a Golden Pheasant tippet tail. This pattern is more like the RGK Trude but tied as a wet fly. This is not the RGK which sports a quill wing and beard.
Tie in the thread an eye length behind eye
Measure the tail fibers to be one hookshank length; tie in and thread wrap to above barb; clip extra behind hook eye
Tie in a length of black chenille and take thread to tie in point; touching wrap chenille to tie in point; be sure to leave plenty of room to tie in wing and front hackle; tie off and clip extra
Measure a clump of calf tail so the end of the wing is half way the length of the tail; tie in a good eye length behind eye keeping the wing centered on top of the shank; secure wraps and clip extra at an angle behind eye
Tie in and wrap a brown hackle feather; tie off and clip or snap out extra feather
Wrap a thread head; whip finish; head cement.
