Tom Carver of Orlando, Florida that guides in the Merritt Island like Mosquito Lagoon and the Banana River; if you are planning to fish these areas as the redfish are hanging out in the grass areas do not leave the weed guard off. If you plan on trying the Redfish Magic in the Charleston, SC area I would suggest that the weed guard should be included when fishing the spartina grass flats to help prevent hang-ups as well. You could possibly leave it off if fishing close to oyster beds.
