Notes:
Pheasant: a classic wet fly from Favorite Flies and Their Histories (1892) by Mary Orvis Marbury
The Orvis flies were tied with either red or black silk. They used the contemporary dark lacquer on the heads which darkened the red silk to a claret. A dark lacquer can be achieved by dissolving garnet shellac with denatured alcohol.
The hook size is similar to the size used for the book though the flies were tied smaller for sale and use.
