Where the Parachute Adams came from
- Derived from Leonard Halladay (original Adams), 1922, Mayfield, Michigan. Parent fly is Halladay's Adams, named for Ohio attorney Charles F. Adams who first fished it on the Boardman River; parachute is a later variationSource: Wikipedia: Adams (dry fly)
- Originated by William Avery Brush / A.C. Mills (Gyrofly), 1930, Detroit, Michigan / New York. 1930s; says a Parachute Adams was among original metal-post 'Gyrofly' parachutes sold by A.C. Mills under Brush's patent; parachute hackle idea credited to Helen Todd of GlasgowSource: Fly Fishing the Sierra: Parachute Adams
- Originated by Doug Swisher & Carl Richards, 1971. Credits them with the modern light hair-post parachute via their 1971 book Selective Trout, replacing heavy metal-post hooksSource: Simpson Fly Fishing: The Parachute Adams
