Where the Francis Fly came from
- Originated by Francis Francis, 1867. Francis says "since its invention" and claims it killed three fish for every one taken by the coch-y-bondu on Welsh rivers; copper peacock herl body ribbed copper silk, medium blue dun hackle, two grizzly blue dun cock hackle point wings. Also used for sea trout, salmon and mahseer in India. His own account; no rival claim found yet.Source: Francis, A Book on Angling (1867; Maxwell ed. archive.org bookonanglingbei00franiala), p.176, general flies
- Described by Mary Orvis Marbury, 1892. Illustrated and discussed by Marbury among her trout flies (no. 133). The chapter carries correspondents' letters on its origin and use; origin claims from those letters not yet extracted.Source: Marbury, Favorite Flies and Their Histories (1892), coloured plates, fly no. 133
Where sources tell it differently, each account is listed with its own source.
