Emerger

Tied By Mark Toole

Hook: Size 10 emerger (wholesale fly co.)

Thread: Uni thread 136D 6/0 olive (Cabelas)

Materials- shuck: Yellow poly yarn (thecreativeangler.com) tail: Pheasant tail (Amazon) abdomen: Gold floss (Amazon) wing: White poly yarn (thecreativeangler.com) post: White poly yarn (thecreativeangler.com) thorax: Olive/brown dubbing (Sparkle Frog from Fly Tyers Dungeon) Other: Hackle around post is ginger colored hackle

Notes:

Start thread behind the eye and run it back to hook point. Then tie in your shuck and tie it slightly into the bend of the hook leaving the shuck about 1/2 gaps width. Tie in the pheasant tail making it slightly longer than the shuck. Tie in the floss and run thread forward towards the eye and wrap the floss forward to about the front third of the shank  leaving plenty of room for the rest of the materials. Tie in the wing and the post. Tie in the post hackle and then dub the thorax leaving enough room to tie the post forward and build a head without crowding the eye! Wrap the hackle around the post (high enough so when you pull the post forward the hackle comes just behind the eye) and then wrap back to bottom of post and tie off the hackle on the post and run thread to behind the eye and add a drop of glue to the tie off point of the hackle! Pull post forward and tie it down and then raise post putting thread in front to build a small head also making post stand up. Whip finish and done. (A slightly harder fly to tie).
