Where the Silver Doctor came from
- Described by Francis Francis. Early dressing: silver tinsel body, blue hackle, scarlet crewel butt and head; calls it a good standard fly.Source: Francis Francis, A Book on Angling (1867; later ed., archive.org bookonanglingbei00franiala), p.250
- Originated by James Wright, Sprouston, River Tweed. Kelson's heading credits Wright, adding that the inventor sometimes added chatterer to the tail; popular across UK, Norway and Canada. / Lists the Silver Doctor among James Wright's famous patterns.Source: Kelson, The Salmon Fly (1895), p.206 | Thunder and Lightning - Ahrex Hooks
Where sources tell it differently, each account is listed with its own source.
