What the Blue Charm imitates
- Salmon / steelhead classic wet (floss, tinsel, hackle)
Where the Blue Charm came from
- Described by T. E. Pryce-Tannatt, 1914. Standard dressing with black floss body, blue throat and mallard/teal wing - the form now usually tied.Source: Pryce-Tannatt, How to Dress Salmon Flies (1914), p.200
- Originated by W. Brown, River Dee, Aberdeenshire. Kelson's heading credits W. Brown; a summer Dee fly on small doubles. Kelson's body is claret silk, unlike later black-bodied versions.Source: Kelson, The Salmon Fly (1895), p.119
Where sources tell it differently, each account is listed with its own source.
