Spectrum Glimmer Chenille

« Back to Glossary Index

Spectrum Glimmer Chenille is a metallic/iridescent fly tying material consisting of a thread core wrapped with fine, long fibers coated in glimmering material. It maintains the same size as UV Polar Chenille but includes two additional pearl hues, creating a full spectrum of clear, UV, red, and green hues with a scraggly silver tone throughout. The material is made of lightweight, water-shedding mylar that’s both durable and easy to wrap.

The versatility of this material makes it ideal for creating baitfish heads and bodies, salmon and steelhead flies (particularly intruders), saltwater fly bodies, freshwater streamers, poppers, and crustacean patterns. It also serves well as a support material for propping up flexible materials in various fly patterns. The material’s long, straight fibers palmer effectively while providing excellent light reflection under various conditions. It offers quick flash and profile addition without added weight, along with versatile wrapping capabilities. The multiple color options available ensure pattern flexibility for diverse fishing scenarios. UV Polar Chenille offers identical construction but lacks the pearl hues, providing a more subtle presentation for pressured fish scenarios. This chenille proves particularly effective for adding sparkle and movement to baitfish patterns and is especially valuable for trout and steelhead intruder patterns. Its versatility extends across both freshwater and saltwater applications, functioning well as both a primary body material and accent material. The material’s unique properties allow for easy manipulation while tying, making it a valuable addition to any fly tier’s arsenal.
