Senyo’s Laser Hair Dubbing

« Back to Glossary Index

Senyo’s Laser Dub is an innovative blend of ice dub and 1-1/2-inch acrylic staple fiber, created by Hareline Dubbin and Greg Senyo. This versatile material enhances nymph and dry fly bodies, and its vibrant colors make it ideal for intruder and steelhead patterns that truly pop underwater. It’s also excellent for crafting wings and collars on streamers, especially notable for producing striking wool-style heads.

The development of Senyo’s Laser Dub carries a meaningful legacy. After the passing of local legend Ed Bordus, who made a cherished material called Lazer Yarn, Greg sought to honor his memory by creating a synthetic alternative to Ed’s goat-wool Laser Dub. Collaborating with Hareline, they successfully crafted this long-strand dubbing, which quickly gained recognition as a key element in effective steelhead flies. Its applications are vast, spanning from nymphs and dry flies to emergers and streamers, including its notable use in creating veiled-style streamer heads.

With over 100 colors available, Senyo’s Laser Dub has evolved beyond its original purpose of tying steelhead flies. It now serves as a go-to material for dubbing on various fly patterns and has even been used in Blane Chocklett’s Game Changer. While it shares some characteristics with other materials, such as the volume-creating capabilities of sculpin wool, Laser Dub stands out for its ability to form fine bodies and dense veiled heads, something other options like Ice Dub cannot achieve.

Senyos Laser Hair Dubbing is frequently chosen for a wide range of flies. It’s particularly useful when you need to add sparkle to a Hares Ear Nymph or prefer not to spin deer hair on a Muddler Minnow. A standout example of its use is in Clark Pierce’s Low Fat Minnow, a well-known baitfish pattern featuring a Laser Dub head.
