Marabou plumes are longer feathers with barbs extending perpendicularly to the stem. Shorter than stem marabou but longer than blood feathers, they are commonly employed for loose barbs in applications where the thick stem is not utilized. Tying in bunches or loops creates hackle, or the barbs can be used as dubbing. These are the most prevalent type of marabou feathers.
