Ice Chenille

« Back to Glossary Index

Ice Chenille is a translucent mylar chenille with a thread core, available in both Medium and Large sizes. It shares similarities with Estaz and Cactus Chenille but lacks their pearlescent fibers, offering a more subtle translucent effect. Each package contains 3 yards of material and is available in 17 fish-attracting colors. This material comes in two sizes. Medium – Designed for medium freshwater and saltwater flies, particularly suited for wooly buggers and bass flies

Large – Optimized for larger freshwater and saltwater patterns, especially effective for salmon, steelhead, and saltwater flies. The material excels in creating streamer bodies, popper bodies, nymph thoraxes, hotspots, and quick egg patterns. Its versatility extends across both freshwater and saltwater applications, from smallmouth bass patterns to steelhead and salmon flies. The thread core enables easy wrapping while strong chenille fibers ensure durability during extended fishing sessions. The material’s density allows for quick body building, and its wrapping characteristics enable both thin bodies (tight wraps) or fuller profiles (multiple wraps) as needed. While similar to Polar Chenille in flash and translucency, Ice Chenille offers fuller body density for quicker pattern development. It differs from Ultra Chenille, which lacks flash and provides more natural-looking patterns. The absence of pearlescent fibers distinguishes it from Cactus Chenille, resulting in more subtle presentation while maintaining excellent flash characteristics. The material’s versatility allows for varied application density through wrap spacing control. Its strong fiber construction maintains pattern integrity during extended use, while the translucent properties provide enhanced underwater visibility across different lighting conditions.
