This bird, commonly known as the Guinea Fowl, is a notable gamebird characterized by its large body, small head, and slaty-gray color adorned with numerous white spots in rows. Its unique features include a bone-like casque on its distinctive head and bare, warty facial skin, which varies in color—white, blue, or red—based on its geographic location. The young birds are brown and typically accompany the adults. Found widely across its habitat, these birds form large groups and can be seen in savannas where they forage for invertebrates and tubers by digging. Their behavior often includes erratic movements while emitting a loud and recognizable “kek-kek-kek-kraaaaaaah” alarm call, along with a distinct plaintive “kuuuh-keeerk”. Crested Guineafowl, differing from Helmeted Guineafowl, are darker in color and possess a plumed crest atop their heads.
