The male Congo peacock (Afropavo congensis) does not fan his covert feathers during courtship; instead, he displays his actual tail feathers, which are considerably shorter than those of the Indian and green peafowl. The ocelli on his tail feathers are also much less pronounced. In contrast, females of both Indian and African species exhibit dull grey or brown plumage.
