Brown Adder

Brown Adder

Dry Fly, Emerger

Tied By Christian Andrews

Hook: #12 dry

Thread: brown

Body Parts: tag, tail, rib, body, front hackle, wings

Materials: silver tinsel, three light or gray feather fibers, gold / copper wire, rust dubbing, brown hen, wild turkey

Notes:

Someone has suggested Mary Orvis Marbury’s book has a typo and this fly should be really be called a brown alder. However, Mary says this is an emerger imitation and not and Alder Fly imitation…so there’s that.

From Favorite Flies and Their Histories (1892) by Mary Orvis Marbury as illustrated by Charles Orvis.
