Materials-

underbody: black floss to cover shank and weighted wire and create a taper

tail: four black rooster / cock hackle feather tips shank length tied to flare

overbody: black marabou tied in soft hackle style over length of body

Notes:

an Eric Leiser fly using the recipes from The Founding Flies by Mike Valla and The Book of Fly Patterns by Eric Leiser

Notes:
Weight the hook with a double wrap beginning 1/4″ behind eye to just past center of shank
Cover the shank and weighted wire with black floss. Leaving the 1/4 behind the eye clean will help the deer hair spin more easily
Beginning at the hook bend, tie in each marabou feather by the tip and wrap the feather toward the eye of the hook soft hackle style pulling the barbs back as the feather is wrapped. Use as many feathers as needed to cover the shank up to 1/4 behind the eye
Spinning the first bunch of deer hair stacked (so the tips are even) and with the tips over the body will leave a collar after the butt ends are clipped
