Bird’s Nest

Nymph, Wet Fly
Tied By Christian Andrews
Hook: #8 – 16 nymph
Thread: tan
Body Parts: tail, rib, body, legs, thorax
Materials: duck or teal flank, gold / copper wire, tan dubbing, same as tail – tied “in the round”, same as body
Notes:
using a recipe and photos in The Founding Flies by Mike Valla
Cal Bird was quite particular about the colors he use use in each fly but he also tied this fly in a great many variations both in color and tail/leg length.
Valla makes a point to proportion the fly with a 2/3 body and 1/3 thorax. The thorax is tied in front of the legs and maybe best with a dubbing loop.
