Random emerger
Dry Fly Emerger, Emerger, Mayfly Emerger, Mayfly Nymph
Tied By James R Bass
Hook: Daiichi 1270 or similar
Thread: Theflysmith 52 denair
Materials- body: Thread, you want a flat thread, I recommend theflysmith 52 denair, if you have a thread that stays flat and is uv use it. hackle: Whatever rooster you have that’s just going to make the thread stand out even more. I strip 1 quarter length of the hackle to expose the stem of the feather. You’ll tie it in right after you tie in the tail. flash: You will wrap the body of the fly making ribbing with it. Pick a color that makes the thread stand out. tail: Pheasant tail, you can go sparse 3 strands or do whatever you like
Notes:
Hook: Daiichi 1270 or similar
Tail:Pheasant tail 3 strands or more every river fishes different.
Body: Just a thread body nice flat wraps and a solid taper. I like skinnier body’s on my nymphs but like I said every river fishes differently.
Flash: you will tie this in as you tying in the body. Then you will make ribbing with it slightly making each wrap wider.
Hackle: Before tying in you will strip 1/4 or less on just one side of the feather then leave the rest of the feather alone. The reason behind this is it acts as a ribbing for the fly. No wire is needed. When you tie the hackle in tie in it tight enough to where it will stay in place but still loose enough to where you can pull it around. You’ll be test fitting it to figure out if you need to cut some of the stem off. 5-7 ribs is all you need. As you wrap upward towards the eye of the hook make the ribs slightly wider every wrap up going on the backside of the flash.
Thorax: This is where the rest of the unstripped feather comes into place, make sure before you start wrapping up towards the the eye of the hook you strip a little bit of feather out, just enough so your 1st wrap can be used as a guide which will allow you to make tighter wraps. Stop 1 eye length away from the hook, whip finish and add or don’t add water solvent you like to use.
