Frizzle Chenille

« Back to Glossary Index

Frizzle Chenille is a unique blend of fiber and mylar material that combines UV properties with fuller bodied construction similar to Cactus Chenille. Available in three distinct sizes: Medium (3/8″, 10mm), Large (5/8″, 15mm), and Wide (3/4″, 20mm), with each package containing 1 yard of material. The material incorporates smaller fibers blended with mylar, creating an estaz-like chenille with enhanced body density. This material excels in creating streamer bodies, warmwater patterns, and saltwater baitfish patterns, particularly effective in squid-style flies. It’s also suitable for crustacean patterns and nymphs, with the Jig Streamer and Frizzle Woolly Bugger being notable example patterns. The material can be wrapped like hackle for bodies or palmered for hackle effects. The combination of fiber and mylar provides both shine and motion when submerged, while UV properties enhance underwater visibility. The material’s winding characteristics allow for easy application, with the density of wraps directly correlating to increased water displacement and frizziness. Available in 16 regular and UV colors, it offers extensive pattern possibilities. The material’s versatility allows for controlled body thickness through wrap density variation. When tied in, it creates a full-bodied silhouette with significant micro-movement, particularly effective in articulated steelhead patterns and streamers. The ease of winding makes it particularly user-friendly for creating consistent, full-bodied patterns. While similar to Polar Chenille, Frizzle Chenille incorporates both fibers and mylar, distinguishing it from mylar-only materials. It shares characteristics with Cactus Chenille but features additional UV and Mylar fibers for enhanced effect.
