Kermode Bear

« Back to Glossary Index

A white-colored Kermode bear, also known as Ursus americanus kermodei, is a notable example of this bear’s color variation. Its fur is soft, featuring dense underfur and long, coarse guard hairs. However, it is not as shaggy or coarse as the fur of brown bears. American black bear skins, including those of the Kermode bear, can be distinguished from the skins of Asian black bears by the absence of a white blaze on the chest and by their hairier footpads.
