body   :   Hareline Dubbin, Gray (DUB5) blended with a small amount of Hareline UV Pearl Ice Dub
collar   :   2-3 turns of a Hen Ringneck Pheasant back feather taken from high up on the back

Notes:

Begin by selecting and preparing a feather from high up on the back of a hen ringneck pheasant, stripping the fluff and leaving only the barbs. Prepare the tip for tying holding a few tip fibers and preening the rest of the fibers towards the rear of the feather, using a bodkin to separate the fibers as much as possible.

Next select a small amount of light gray dubbing and blend it well with an even smaller amount of Pearl UV Ice Dub, in a 3:1 or even 4:1 blend. You will not need much as we want the body to be sparse enough for the thread to show through.

Attach your thread a bodkin width back from the eye and lay down a smooth thread base to the bend of the hook. Create a small hotspot here and run your thread back to the point of the hook.

Sparsely dub the thread and wrap the body in tight touching wraps forward to the index point.

Tie in the prepared pheasant feather by the tip and take 2-3 touching wraps forward to create the collar, taking care to preen the fibers back so none are trapped.

Tie off the feather and trim the excess. Create a small thread head and whip finish.

I fish these in Central California throughout the spring and summer, the trout at Huntington Lake absolutely love them.
