Thread: The Fly Smith 52d chartreuse
Tail: squirrel
Body: pearl white flash, green fine wire
Thorax: mixture of yellow and green seal dubbing. Alternative can be used ice dubbing is a great alternative.
Wing casing: jungle cock, alternatives pheasant feathers you’ll just have to thin the feather down to the shape you want.
Head: tungsten bead any color and size will work, I have a variation of this where I use a plastic bead to get it to float higher up in the water table.
Hot spot behind the head: red
This is just a searching pattern made for my home river, it represents a stonefly nymph, mayfly nymph, caddis.

Start: any thread will work but as a suggestion I would recommend Brian Smith awesome new thread, the 52d stuff lays flat and is what I used, check that out at www.theflysmith.co. Back to the fly, cut out a small clump of squirrel tail, there’s 2 ways you can do this try both.
1st: when you cut the squirrel tail you can cut it to where it matches length from the start of the bend to the point of the hook.
2nd: double from the start of the bend of the hook to the point of the hook like I did in the picture.
Once you decided the length of the squirrel tail you want to use go ahead and tie that in, now tie in your flash and wire, wrap the flash up the body all the way up to the thorax, then wrap the wire up as well(5-7 wraps).
Now loosely make a short dubbing noodle and wrap 2-3 tight turns to lock the dubbing into place, add your 1st jc nail and secure it, 2-3 wraps.
Now make another short loose dubbing noodle 2-3 turns locking the dubbing into place, add your 2nd jc nail.
Now you can hand whip finish or use your whip finisher, do 2 quit turns to lock everything into places, don’t cut the thread yet, pull a little bit of thread out grab a read sharpie or a alcohol base marker and color the thread.
Whip finish 3 turns to really lock everything into place, cut and then add a dab of head cement or uv resin.
Hopefully this explains a little bit of my madness.
